Discipline is not a spectrum. You either executed the rule or you did not. Any system that allows partial credit introduces ambiguity, and ambiguity destroys enforcement.
Binary systems are harsh by design. They remove interpretation, justification, and self‑negotiation. When outcomes are binary, behavior becomes clear. When behavior is clear, correction is possible.
This directive eliminates gradient thinking from discipline.
The Core Principle
Execution is a yes‑or‑no event.
Once a rule exists, there are only two valid states: compliance or violation. Degrees of effort, intent, or struggle are irrelevant to the system. The system only records execution.
Binary evaluation stabilizes behavior by making feedback immediate and unambiguous.
Why This Fails for Most People
Most people soften discipline to protect self‑image. They introduce language like:
- “Mostly did it”
- “Tried my best”
- “Did part of it”
- “Will make up for it later”
These phrases convert failure into negotiation. Negotiation delays correction. Delayed correction compounds error.
When discipline is graded, failure becomes tolerable. When failure is tolerable, it repeats.

Discipline must be evaluated as binary.
Either the rule was executed in full, or it was not executed.
